Help for flooded gardens

  • Oh, Artjak, Nut, Rosie And Lizzie. So well done. My OH has promised he will meet anyone at Haydock. However, he only has a very small, dark garden, and is Death to plants, so they could not stay there long.He will be back from my house 2-3rd May. I believe Fairy might be nr me? And might be persuaded to part with a few plants? I could be wrong, but I can't be the most northern one amongst us, surely?

Is it possible to change the name of a thread but keep the posts? I wonder if we might reach more forum members that way? Maybe post it as an appeal?

Sorry, been typing this for ages, but watching 'Gorillas in the Mist' at same time. Such a sad film, but to see the plants so much bigger and healthier is great. And to know that her sacrifice has gone a long way towards saving a nearly extinct species. Which then leads me to another thought. Could there be native plants that may struggle now?

.... and here are Lizzie's plants safely arrived at the Somerset 'plant creche', getting tender love and care until they are adopted by needy gardeners.  First load delivered - well done message board!  (If anyone wants to see more on facebook, go to the facebook page called 'Community Blooms'.)

    Brilliant job everyone! image

By the way, I tried searching for Community Blooms on FB, but nothing came up. Any clues?

Golarne, Rosie will have to help you with that one.

Gardenjeannie, I think it may be confusing to change the name of the thread, but we could always start a complimentary thread that 'pulled' (no pun intendedimage) people in this direction. Have only just got up, so will have to think about that.

It is a beautiful morning here in the Fens, just right for more potting up.

Hi Golarne...  not sure why you can't find Community Blooms on Facebook (it is all a bit of a mystery to me).

Has anyone else managed to find it?  Could anyone who 'does' facebook try to find Community Blooms?  (Can anyone FB-savvy out there think why Golarne can't find it?)

Need some brain storming please; I can get free pots from St. Peter at Moat Road Nursery, what I now need is some kind of waterproof trays to stand them in as I have run out of 'gravel trays' and some of mine are pretty big! Can anyone think of anything that would be pretty much free that would substitute for gravel trays? image

Do you need the 'trays' to be liftable?  I made the whole of a shelf into a substitute gravel tray by putting some offcuts of wood strips along each side to create upright sides, then a ripped open old compost bag for waterproof layer, then gravel on the plastic which held it down and in shape.  Couldn't lift it but it worked well (although a bit of a mess when dismantled at end of season image...

Rosie, it does need to be in g/h or conservatory at night and out in the day, but compost bags in the collapsible crates that I use for equipment could work...image
