  • Wow what a response. thank you all very much for your help and advice.

  • I have had my strawberry bed for 5 years now. They still produce well but I think that I should dig them all up and replants with new stock? I have another small bed so I will have some whist the new stock grows.

  • This is a great thread.  May I add a question to it?

I have a tub with strawberry plants in and I can see a runner has developed. The tub is already full, but  I want to use it.  What do I do with it?

  • How do I over winter strawberry plants?

Louise, fill a small pot with soil and pin the runner, still attached to the mother plant, into the soil and it will root, and hey presto you have a new plant. As your question was some time ago, you've probably done it already.

George, Strawberries over-winter in the soil, no need to protect them, they are hardy.
