Clematis Daniel Deronda

Planted this clematis September last year. It is coming up nicely with 6 flowerbuds already but something is eating the leaves. Suggestions ????

    Slugs and snails love clematis when it's fresh in spring so protect it with organic slug pellets and go out at night to pick them off.
