I thought I'd lost the one I planted last year but after me cutting back all the brown dry foliage it is now shooting with new leaves. Very slowly I might add, but at least it's not dead! I don't think it likes the wet and cold, so I'm hoping a warm spell will get it growing faster.

  • I also planted a Star Jasmine in 2011. It did not produce any growth last year, this year it has put on about 8 inches of spindly growth on two stems. The rest of the plant just sits there. It looks remarkably healthy. I understand that it is a slow growing plant but this is ridiculous. Feeding with with high potash plant food is recommended on the label. The plant is not impressed I'm sure it is laughing at me.

  • I had problems with mine too as since I brought it home it lost leaves turned yellow etc so I moved it out of where I had planted it and left it by my compost heap for a couple of weeks, seemed to like this treatment so I repotted and its now happy, dont know about talking to it but it got the message grow or else!

  • I had just the same problem but had kept mine in a pot. Thought it was a goner in spring so repotted it and gave it some tomato food after a couple of weeks. Lo and behold it is now thriving and covered in flowers - but a bit hard to enjoy the fragrance through driving rain. My neighbour had same thing but we have planted hers out against a wall - and its not dead yet! Think thay are just the sort of plant that goes into a huff - an expensive spoiled child .

  • I suppose it is what comes of planting things that are not fully hardy nd need coddling. I bought mine last year at a garden centre in west Wales where a large, enclosed pergola covers much of the exterior space and the Jasmines were warm and sheltered from the constant heavy rain. Fabulous atmosphere inside the enclosed area, with thriving plants and tables and chairs to sit and enjoy it all. My own covered pergola just doesn't provide the same degree of shelter, despite the walled garden. I sometimes think that I should roof the whole garden! Anyone know of a very large polytunnel going cheap?

  • Had similar problems with mine earlier in the year. Gave it a trim, fed it and hoped for the best. Its now lovely. Its on a west facing fence and gets the sun most of the day. My neighbours like it too as it is now grown over the fence. I love the perfume from the flowers.

  • I have had one of these for about 15 years which has thrived in its sunny sheltered spot against a wall BUT this year, while we were on holiday, it suddenly and without warning died - can anyone suggest why?

  • My star jasmine has been infested with flies this year - great clouds of them! Any ideas why this is happening?

    Soozen.

  • I have the same problem already this year. Does anyone have a solution ?

  • Hi yarrow2, did you ever identify what was wrong with your star jasmine and how is it doing now? I bought 3 from a supplier yesterday and did not notice till I got them home that all have a few leaves with similar discolouration to yours- yellowing along veins and midrib. I thought it might be a nutrient or maybe a virus and am thinking of taking them back as I do not want to infect my other plants (these were to fill a gap in a jasmine hedge). Did yours recover? thanks!
