Acers
in Plants
I have an acer palmatum bloodgood which I planted 3 years ago and it has been growing well. However this year it is producing leaves only on one side. There are leaves on the north side but the branches on the south side are bare. I have scraped the bark on a few of them and they do not appear to be dead. Can anyone tell me what may have caused this and what if anything should I do to encourage it to produce leaves.

Hi David, I have one of these as well, I've had mine for over ten years and it is only growing leaves at the bottom this year, the top doesn't look too good at all. My Acer is in a pot and sheltered from the cold winds. It has grown so well up until now, I have loved it and looked after it really well. Hopefully someone will be able to help us.
