Courgettes - Self Pollunating

Has anyone tried growing self setting courgettes from seed? I would be interested to know how they got on, and if the taste was up to much

Huh? Courgettes have male and female flowers and I have never had any problems. If taste wasn't any good I wouldn't grow them.

Not sure what you mean.  They are naturally self and cross-pollinating.  I would not try growing them from self collected seed as courgettes are very promiscuous and cross with any other variety in the vicinity or garden next-door.

Have a read of the aftercare tab on your link... I have never hand pollinated Courgettes but always end up with plenty in the freezer!

Snap - courgettes, courgettes and more courgettes most summers - never needed to hand pollinate whatever the variety.

  • Mine are grown in the green house so I hand pollinated last year but I cant be ar5ed this time around. The male and female flowers never seem to arrive at the same time

If you leave the greenhouse door open you will probably get pollinating insects etc to do the job for you.
