I'm back. The rain almost held off, but being in a big polytunnel with a howling gale going on was weird to say the least. Both car parks full, so I was expecting lots of people in the garden, but by the time we got there, there was just me and mum,and a party of germans on a circular tour. We had a look around the gardens, trying not to squelch on the grass too much. There were lots of big snowdrops (sam arnott?), big witch hazels in flower (varying colours) eranthis, cyclamen, iris, and of course, hellebores. The grasses were standing up well, considering the lousy weather we are having.
There was a big polytunnel open which houses the main stock of hellebores, as well as the normal sales areas. So then we headed for the cafe, which is when we discovered where everyone was. it was heaving. having fortified ourselves, I got a trolley. This is where it got bad (for my purse). I couldn't decide which of the glorious specimens to have. I settled on six and a book.I took some photos of green ones for Verdun, but there is not a really deep green.
Thats apart from the slate grey/blackones. the deep purply red ones, yellow single, yellow, spotted, yellow double. ... and I totally ignored the white ones.
