Going out with a torch in the evening for a whole year seemed to get rid of 95% of the slug population in my garden.
I now only find babies lurking under the bark chips and I intend to deal with these quickly when the temperatures start to rise slightly.
last year i asked this question and was told St Valentines day and i belied it, im a little wiser now .
I have read somewhere that used coffee bean also kills slug-but it may also kill off the plants! Not tried it yet but will as haven't seen many slugs lurking around.
Nematodes worked really well to control slugs in my garden last year.
Every time it had rained, I also sprayed more delicate plants, like hostas, with my own garlic spray.
The rest, the frogs ate!
Good luck
Dont think they go to sleep at all!
