Masses of small flies on Parlour Palm
I have a beautiful Parlour Palm in my conservatory and over the last couple of months there have been masses of small flies coming out of the soil. I have resorted to even spraying the plant and soil with Raid but still the flies keep hatching. What can I do to get rid of these pests please?

You need to let the top of the soil dry out and only water from below. Yellow sticky fly paper will catch them
Yes, they'll be compost flies - annoying little chaps - covering the top of the compost with grit or little clay spheres sometimes helps prevent them. As Fleurisa says, keep the compost drier on the top
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Take the Palm into the garden and give a vigorous spray of water to the leaves, You may need to repeat this but it will work. In my Tropical plant days I did this with citrus fruit plants which often are invaded by compost beasties in winter.
