I have a Christmas tree in my front garden about 8 feet high and about 8 feet from the house. Is my house in any danger from the roots or do the roots stay fairly thin?

Hi,
Conifers don't have long roots. So, no problem. Rather, the problem would be at ground level. Pine needles change soil PH, making it more acidic. So not every plant can grow in the shade Christmas tree.
