They don't need a lot of water Matthew, even when in flower and in fact I don't water mine in the traditional sense, I spray them - the roots so they are damp and the leaves lightly just once or twice a week depending on the weather and how warm it is. Another point is, they don't like to be in direct sunlight but they do like a lot of light, so don't put them on the windowsill image

My summer regime for the orchids has changed slightly this year because we were going to be away for 2 weeks in late June / early July.  I bought a large gravel tray and filled it with small pebbles then filled the tray with water and stood the orchids on pebbles.  They are out of the water but getting plenty of humidity as the water evaporates.  Stood in shade and now sprayed about once a week when I'm bringing the hose back in from doing the pots in the front garden.  Most of them now have new flower spikes and those without have newe leaf growth.

I cut the flower stems back to a couple of nodes above the base and that works well for me.

What a good idea KT, I'm away for a week so they should be ok but might be worth doing that as a precaution image
