New to gardening. Need some advice
in Talkback
hi everyone, I'd love a rockery along here however I have no idea how to start it. I'm also open to other ideas not just a rockery, I like the idea of alot of moss over rocks and hardy, low maintenance shrubs though.

Good luck and keep us informed of how it's going
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Now what plants are you going to get. Garden centres have a lot of alpines in small pots at the moment. You might need to add some gravel to make sure it is free draining.
..oh that looks nice..when I click on it, it turns the right way up..
..this could be really good...what I would do would be to bury the rocks..those in the middle and any more you get..about half or even three quarters deep...like an iceberg..where most is below the surface...and not to leave the rocks just scattered on the top...
..for planting..I might move that aggressive looking Geranium at the corner there, to somewhere else in the garden... I notice a small stump...but that's ok you can make use of that, something to grow over it...things like dwarf hebe's, succulents..and little alpines for the front to cascade over the front stones would be nice...might put some grit or gravel in that bed for drainage...something along those lines...so much to choose from really.. have fun...
...whoops...I seem to be repeating fidgetbones there a little...lol...just saw that...
to be honest I'm happy with it as it is for now so i won't be planting anything for a while
i'm gonna cut back the geranium/maybe just dig it up and move it completely to the front garden (see my other post)
It looks as though the bed is edged with rocks and then there is a second row of rocks along the front? Move the second row of rocks into groups within the bed so you have 'rocky outcrops'. You can then plant up with some alpines, dwarf conifers etc and finish the lot off with a covering of gravel/pea shingle.
