Plastic bags for seedlings

  • Yeah, like everyone else has said the supermarket carrier bags are fine.

I've got Asda and Co-op bags covering my seed trays right now.

I've started my Runners off in those big yoghurt pots with the lid on until they shoot and on the window sill in the kitchen, I've got Sweet Peas in a clear plastic box that had danish pastries in originally. Those bakery boxes are mini greenhouses and i use them all the time for germinating.

Will be planting Sunflowers in loo roll tubes very soon too !

I always use loo roll tubes for my sweet peas to give them plenty of root room and those tall clear pots sundaes come in are great for big seeds too, as they are deep have a little domed lid which makes a perfect roof! Those shallow, clear plastic containers takeways sometimes come in make good covers for small trays and the deeper foil ones make good seed trays - if they're not too messy to wash! image
