Butterfly Palm dying????

Please help

I bought a flourishing, beautiful, green, full, butterfly palm about two months ago. A couple of weeks ago I noticed what looks like whitefly on the bottom stems, and on the underside of some leaves. The tips are all going dry and brown, and a couple of stems have gone black - it looks 'ill' and thin now compared to when I bought it.

Am I doing something wrong or is it diseased?
