Shallots
in Fruit & veg
Hello everyone, I am wanting to put my shallot sets in this weekend but not sure if to put them in a grow bag or large pot.
Advantages to large pot: It will have the depth.
Advantages to grow bag: I can plant a row, thus use more sets and get a larger harvest.
The grow bag I have is about 5/6 inches deep but as a newbie Shallot grower I am not sure if this will be enough??
I grow all my veg on a balcony so a bed is not an option. I have my name on an allotment waiting list but think I may have to wait until 2080 to get one!! On the upside I have a big sunny balcony

No problem! they don't have deep root sytems so you should be ok. the only thing I would be concerned is the moisture level. Shallots need free draining soil so I would take a third of the bag out and replace it with sandy fine gravel. Of course you need to keep an eye on the watering so they don't dry out!
