Tracey, I'm not a fan of Moneymaker, not that they aren't reliable and fairly disease resistant. Just to me they lack taste. But let's face it any homegrown taste stacks better than bought.
If I was going for "tried & trusted" ordinary sized toms I'd consider, Shirley or Alicante.
KEF, sorry I missed your last post the other day. I found some alienate left from last year! still in date so will be sowing these. I'm going to do those and buy some plum for the greenhouse
Started very enthusiastically early this year growing Toms from seed in my 'brilliant new' greenhouse. Produced loads of plants, to give away. Took up an offer from Gardeners World for 6 Varied tomato plugs, paying only the postage. They have come on amazing and I shall be putting them in my 'grow pots' today. In future I think I would go down this route with one of the reputable nurseryman rather than mess about fussing over whether or not the seeds are going to germinate. When I am more experienced I may change my mind. Still time to get great plug plants from Gardeners Wiorld ads.

They sure are. Amongst other things, you can also make Fried Green Tomatoes with them.
A lot of non-Italians find the greenness of the salad tomatoes here off-putting. They add a nice tang in place of the traditional tom taste.
