Red Hot Pokers

Hello

My red hot poker large orange flowers in the summer months, at the base of the stem has a lot of as i can only describe as slime. which i presume is plant rot, where water has got in over the winter. they are planted on a very exposed bank

When i have tried to clear cut out it looks like it has gone into the core of the plant, which looks like a whole in the centre where the plant has snapped of.

The whole plant is not looking healthy, should i dig up and divide getting rid of anything that i think does look good, and replant.

Any other suggestions most welcome.

Thank you.

  • You need to cut out anything that is mushy to where it starts to be turgid. That will hopefully stop the rot. I would add some drainage around where the plant is to avoid it happening again.
