Hi this is my first time on this website and I had to tell you solution to the garden lablel problem. I use wooden lolly sticks. You can write on them with a ball point pen and they are also biodegradable. Hope this helps some of you. ?
Great ideas everyone. I have used the lolly-style wooden ones this year for bulbs I did in pots - they just fading now but not surprised with rain and sun to contend with. I have done black ones too which have a white pen - they have lasted over a year. I also take some pics of new plants with their labels... one day I would like to log all my plants!
One of my gardening friends who has horticultural training has taken to cutting up old roofing slates for labelling plants in the garden as they are discreet. She then writes on them in white or green. I'll ask her what she uses next time I see her.
For seed trays and babies she and I both just use plastic labels with a 2B crayon or indelible marker depending on whether it's one we sow every year or not. I also use cheap plastic labels for plants I raise and donate to the annual charity sale.
I like the idea of copper labels for the garden though and the slate too. Now to find a steam rally and a slate cutter!
