It would be a shame not to get some Sweet Vernal Grass, if only to grow in a pot near your door so you can crush a leaf or two as you walk past. You can get the

    Deschampsia cespitosa - Tufted Hair-grass (w) Deschampsia flexuosa - Wavy Hair-grass (w) Anthoxanthum odoratum - Sweet Vernal-grass (w)

from the above links. I know we didn't mention Wavy Hair Grass but it is as interesting.

    Ooh, nobody mentioned:

Briza media - Quaking Grass (w)

    I'ts a lovely grass.

    hi jim

i am glad you mentioned Briza media, my daughter gave me a small bunch ofdried flowers with that grass when she was about ten,

many years later i scattered the grass seed. it grew and has self set for several years. i was amazed as the seed was so old but it looks so dainty in the border.

Ah, that's a nice story. It's so nice to have plants that means something to us especially with such a nice plant and it's native. image

I've got a Acer my grandad bought me when I was 18. I won't tell you how old it is. image

  • Thought I'd post a couple of pics I took at RHS Wisley last weekend - it was a glorious Winter's day and the grasses/seed pods looked so beautiful. Proof that this lot even look stunning in Winter!

Looks like you had a memorable visit. Lovely.

  • Thanks Jim - it was glorious. And for the first time, I got to see everything calmly and thoroughly without kids in tow - even better!
