  • I did my lawn and got 13 big bags (the white ones builders use) of moss out .

I brought a electric scrapper ,but putting holes in even with a fork took me about 20 hours of hard work .Iwish I could hire to tools to do the job or my weekends will be taken up again this year.

Hi, we relaid our lawn last April and due to my sons playing outside a lot we now have large bald patches. How can I get rid of these patches?

hi everyone...get in touch with GreenThumb, they do lawn care and its not as expensive as you would expect...they work miracles. lawn at our new home looks and feels like cows have been wandering over it, very mossy (though being treated) etc...should I use a roller on it?

After carrying out all the steps in the improve your lawn video. How long do you have to wait before you can mow the lawn.

    Thanks

  • Hi. As 'Plant' above asks, do we not mix in seed with the sand and soil before brushing in ??

I have recently seeded my lawn and it's coming up nice but here and there I have bare patches ,the grass is about 1" high now , when do I mow it and should I patch the bare parts with compost and more seed when the rain stops, advice much appreciated many thanks.

  • Sorry Mike - it was a genuine question.

Andy, I'm not an expert at this (quite the novice myself but learning thanks to this site) but I think if you add sand (proper horticultural sand - not builders sand or play sand that might contain salt that would damage the seeds) if helps you spread the mix more evenly. I've done this with fine seeds before and it worked really well.

Adding soil over the top gives the seed something to grow into as well as protecting it from birds.

I'd be tempted to add the seeds to the soil and apply that and THEN give it a light covering with multi-purpose compost.

    I hope this helps! image
  • Hi Clarington. Thanks for your helpful reply.

I know the sand should be horticultural and I believe it also aids drainage into the spiked holes when mixed with some top soil. The uncertainty on my part was simply, do I add seed to this sand / soil mixture before spreading and brushing-in.

I note your suggestion for finishing off with a dusting of MP compost.

    Thanks again.
