Talkback: Chitting seed potatoes

    Juliesayers, the reason given for using seed potatoes is that you are more likely to spread diseases such as potato virus to your crop from potatoes intended for eating, but I have no idea why they should be more prone to disease than seed potatoes, perhaps someone can tell us.

    Potatoes are slowly chitting but should we wait to plant them with this unusually cold spell?

  • Can you over-chit potatoes? Not grown potatoes before.  Mine have been chitting for ever but it's so cold haven't wanted to plant them.

    Well you dont want long shoots/chits-is it just give them a head start-dont over obsess about this -get them planted soonimage

  • OK- i'll get them done this weekend - weather is suppose to be better then although they are forecasting snow again tonight in the SE - deep joy!
