  • artjak you are lucky to have been blessed with diy skills. That sounds perfect for the job, well done you.  image I would no doubt end up in a&e with a lot of pain missing a finger.

Perki I have not heard of that website I will check them out. Is the budget now completely blown to bits? The January sales might have better deals. image

I spoke to elite about powder coating how long it will last they said exceeding 25 years with the greenhouse very close to the house and everyone can see it, i probably go for a green powder coated greenhouse.

Well final i got my greenhouse erected , it arrived just before Christmas but due to the weather not had chance to do anything with it. I am thrilled to bits with it image, its like my second home at the moment. It was a complete nightmare to build though, the instructions was appalling, but elite was very helpful when i rang them up. I just need to build some staging now and get some seeds sown.

If anyone curious i saved over £200 buying in December instead of January

Good for you Perki, I really struggled with my GH during the build, had to take it down first and then rebuild it in a new home as it was second hand...but onward and upward...happy growing...

  • I bought a Simplicity Stableford 12x 8 with high eaves from the Greenhouse People.  I'm really pleased with it - 6'8" ridge, toughened glass, two louvers and 4 auto vents.  I spent the extra and got bar capping instead of using glazing clips cos my location is quite exposed.  Very sturdy when completed and TGP are a delight to deal with.

Sounds great your Greenhouse GardenerWA have you recently bought it?

  • I actually bought it a year ago but was having some landscaping done and wasn't sure where to site it.  I eventually got it all completed in July.  In my original post I made a mistake - the door height is 6'8", the ridge is 8' (or 2.5 metres if you're younger than me!)

Very high ridge your GH has GardenerWA,  think mine only 1.6 metre or 5.4' if you old than me image, better than my old GH though kept hitting my head on the roof.

Is your GH sheltered from the wind cause with the roof vents the wind keeps trying to snatch them. I only have my Autovent vent on one side now ( east facing ) and manual on the other.

  • Unfortunately at over 1000 feet and rather open to the southwest my GH is somewhat exposed - hence the use of bar capping instead of glazing clips. The orientation is exactly East-West and I'm thinking of disconnecting the autovents on the south side and fixing them shut during the winter months.  I use IBCs (1000 litre plastic tanks on pallets) for rainwater collection and I'm planning to site 3 or 4 on the windward side (partly filled to stop them moving!) to offer some wind protection.  I hope it works!
