Voodoo Lily
in Plants
We bought a voodoo lily by post in the 60's. It grew to a six or seven inch lily plant without soil, then we put it in a plantpot and it grew very rapidly, sometimes an inch a day in a warm spot hear the radiator, to become a crown of leaves about three foot high. I think the stems had a red speckle pattern. i tried buying it recently but I didnt know exactly which voodoo lily it was, and the one I got was bigger, more exotic, but it didnt germinate at all. This was very easy to grow. Anyone remember it?

Voodoo seems to include anything with a purple spathe doesn't it
I've heard it applied to Dracunculus vulgaris and some of the arisaemas but I'm sure there are loads more

Sounds like Sauromatum venosum. There are a few hardy varieties but I would say Sauromatum venosum is the hardiest for me. Apparently the flower smells like rotten flesh for 24 hours during flowering - I havve never detected a smell yet from them.
Not like the dracunculus Blairs. The first time that came my way I went looking for the dead cat.
