you could just stick with one type of flower

  • I don't usually do labels in the garden as they disappear, break, fade etc. However I am trying to be disciplined with my new alpines in the GH/AH.

One major problem.... the smaller the plant the longer the name......first rule of alpine gardening....and they are unpronouncible or memorable either.  grrrrrrrrrr

The labels are bigger than the plants!!image

The problem is I really used to be able to remember exactly what I'd planted where and when, and the latin names and everything - list? labels?- not for me image

  • At Great Dixter, Christo LLoyds brilliant garden, there is a sign explaining 9 reasons why no plants are labelled. 1. people steal labels. 2. people move labels. 3. birds pull up labels. etc. etc.

If anyone asked CL a question about a plant he would only answer them if they had a pencil and paper to hand... because they would always forget. If. on the other hand, they did write stuff down he would be the best teacher ever.
