Rasperberries Quite Short

NewBoy2NewBoy2 Posts: 1,813

Got my plot 2 years ago and moved some free ranging canes into a neat row just 12 " wide and the canes 9" apart.

?? As they are still producing some fruit are they Autumn ones please

They have produced good fruit but have not really grown more than a few inches higher in 24 months....they are 18" tall

The other canes that are just growing freely on my neighbours plot have bigger fruit and are twice as tall

I think mine  are too close together

Comments / advice please

Mine are fairly close together too but fruit well.  Give them a good feed in the spring and you should do better next year.

  • Give them a good feed in the spring as Forester suggests.  If you drink real coffee used coffee grounds are good to mulch with as are pine needles (to keep the acidity).

If they are fruiting now I would guess they are autumn fruiting although my summer fruiting canes didn't fruit until very late this year.

My autumn fruiting raspberries are much shorter than my summer fruiting ones. But they are a lot taller than yours. I find they do well with rose food and they like being well watered. This summer was very dry.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
