What's this?

I'm not sure what this is or what the little plant that's growing beside it is. I'm thinking it might be a food plant or some sort of herb. I've been away for 3 months and had a friend water my balcony troughs when possible. I cannot remember what I plant if I'm honest. Please help

I'm thinking the plant next to it is a weed?

  • Thank you nut cutlet. Have you any idea of the other one? It might peak my memory?

Pinch the leaves and sniff.  It will then be obvious if it is a herb.  The plant to the left is definitely a weed.

  • LOL Janey - my Missus is exactly the same.  I always label my stuff.  It doesn't look like a herb but pinching the leaves will definitely tell you if it is.  I wouldn't eat it unless you do know either!

  • Thank you

I think the plant to the right could be Mirabilis jalapa or Four o'clock flower.

Janey, you never said whether the leaves smell of anything, with or without pinching them.

I don't think it's mirabilis, I grow that most years
