Red gooseberries. How to best produce a good yield?

I've 2 red gooseberry bushes; both are very young so I realise that I may not get any fruit for a while. My question is; is there anything I can do to help encourage the growth of the bushes and anything I can do to encourage a decent yield? Both bushes are in a good, sheltered spot with well drained soil and get plenty of sunlight. I will soon be adding red currants, black currants & ordinary green gooseberries to my soft fruit collection so any advice gratefully received!

I'd give them a good mulch with well-rotted farmyard manure or compost, keeping the area around the stem clear. Then in the late winter/early spring I'd sprinkle some Fish, Blood and Bone around.
