Lizzie - said i would dig out pics of my Cecille Brunner at the old house - teamed with a montana clematis it put on quite a show. Still waiting for something approaching this in our current garden - but a few years to go i fear ....
I am back from a long weekend of debauchery in Scotland for MILs 80th. birthday. My OHs family certainly know how to party. The clans assembled from places far and wide and I barely saw my bed for 3 nights. I am definetely feeling frail now.
I shall probably spend next couple of days in bed, but should then be ready to contribute again.
Hope all are well, see you soon.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
This is the job in progress - as you'll see we've got more space than some people, but we have to leave room on the lawn for lying on our backs gazing up through the branches of the ash trees and being swooped over by the bats (we have an SSSI bat cave just 100m from our front door)
The pond is 2.60m x 1.70m approx.
The area between the pond and the Shady Bank (supported by sleepers) is going to be planted to provide cover for the hedgehogs so we can use some of the topsoil there, and there are some other places we can put it, but we might have to get a mini skip at some stage.
It's not the perfect place for a pond, as it's under the tree, but we'll net it for the short period when it drops its leaves.
You can see one of the hedgehog houses and the hedgehog gate into the next garden. There's going to be a log pile behind the ferns near the garden seat eventually.

Thanks Chicky, that's lovely. I love the perfect tiny buds, like mini HT roses, when they start coming out.
Have been clearing the big border. It was a big, long version of this one. This one (in photo) will be done last as it was so wet. Ground squelched all around. I left the dead growth for protection and wildlife, but it's such a lot of work in the spring I think I'm having 2nd thoughts. But then last autumn and winter were so wet I wouldn't have got the chance.
It's a mess.
Good luck with the pond Dove.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hope you get your snowdrops soon Clari, I ordered them the same time as you, mine came saturday. Hope I didn't get your share there was well over 100 bulbs, i lost count after 150.
Chicky that looks beautiful, they look great together.
Dove and Kef hope your poorly bits get better soon.
Stacey hope Lo gets better soon too.
Ooops sorry Dove, meant to say, pond coming along nicely

If I get over a 100 I'll be slightly less grumpy over the delay! 150 would be wonderful. I've certainly the space for them!
I'm a little worried about them arriving this week and drying out in the lovely warm weather we're having (stuck at work alas).
Just returned from my secondary eye test - perfect vision and glorious weather. Shame I'm now stuck back in the office!!
Clari, wrap them in layers of soggy newspaper and put them in a cool corner.
Congrats on having perfect vision - let me tell you, it's so annoying when that first sign of ageing makes itself known
We have 'robin' in the front garden Fg , but when we get some undergrowth planted I'm hoping he and his missus will move into the back. We've got lots of goldfinches who love the ash trees and sing to us most of the day. We had a pair of bluetits rear two broods in a nest box on the other ashtree last year, and this year they're very much in evidence, with the male sitting in the ashtree warning off any interlopers, so hopefully they'll use the box again.
Next door have two tiny ponds and get lots of frogs, who also visit our garden in damp weather - hopefully we'll see them more often if we provide more 'damp'.
OH is back outside digging the pond - I'm feeling a bit 'under the weather' so have been sent indoors to put my feet up and watch Cagney & Lacey with you lot on the sofa. OH very sensibly said that it's only just over 24 hours since I was running a temp and had horrid earache and I've done a load of washing, baked a batch of bread, hoed and raked in the garden and done a lot of pond supervision - that's enough

Dove - I wore glasses through most of my teenage years - this is the first time I've had perfect vision so its a nice surprise (though I was hoping it would be a "quick fix" for all the headaches I'm getting).
Not sure what happened with my last comment - I'd been trying to type and they disappeared, only to reappear it seems later on. Most odd!
Thanks for the suggestion about cool newspaper. I just hope they've arrived!!

And do you have a 'robin' living in the 'bat cave' too Dove?
Pond will be great. I had a couple of mature trees near my pond in a previous house - pond was a similar size. Just net it. No problem.
doc - it's ok - we'll just whisper
Loverly pic chicky. I'm not a fan of roses but I do like climbers.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
