We felt that Alan Bloom's garden was in need of some tlc - some areas were ghosts of what they had been - a few plants were tired and we would have replaced them by now - there were also some gaps where there had been losses. It felt as if there was no hand on the rudder.
However, Adrian's Foggy Bottom was a real contrast - lush even this early in the season, and the use of perennials and shrubs amongst the mature conifers was great. There was a really inspirational sense of design about the planting
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Foggy Bottom was the best. It reminded me of how good the Dell garden was when I first saw it. 30 years ago? When my 40 year olds were kids anyway.
The Dell garden seemed to have lost its way somewhat, still some interesting things and not BAD. But you have to keep renewing and replacing to keep a garden lively and maybe that's what is happening now.
Chicky do you grow asparagus or have I dreamt it? There is a thread entitled Cut or Leave asking about asparagus, wondered if you can advise, or if anyone else can help.
Progress may be about to be made on the chickens! I've found a (not as hideously expensive) coop that's relatively nearby (kind of, ish, if you squint at the map and happen to be going that way anyway which we almost are on Sunday) which I reckon would be better than him building one himself what with the huge to do list I have for him. He even seems to almost agree with the idea.
Just need to work out how to get it back home! Erm...
I might also be requesting a visit to Bank View Farm that Mrs. G mentioned to have a wander around local suppliers so I know where to get everything I need when the time comes. Well it is my birthday!
Its all really rather exciting!
Fidget - when I lived with my parents I had one of those stick on window bird feeders. Every morning at 07:00 when my alarm went off there would be a tapping at the window as a little grey squirrel would sit waiting for me to refill the feeder. It wouldn't even flinch when I opened the window and was most disgruntled if my hand stayed a moment longer than needed!
Clari, I looked on eBay etc for chicken coops, around £120 for 3-5 chickens, reviews were ok but the ones 3+ times as much were much sturdier from what I could gather you may get what you pay for. Hope you get to touch and feel some before buying so you can make an informed decision, ps, you don't need an appointment for BVfarm just turn up I was told when I emailed her. Exciting, enjoy! Hmmm, think I might be able to meet up with you there perhaps...?
OK helpers, here's my list of plants I might be able to divide and pot up for a car boot on 5 June, let me know what you think...
chives (is it a prob that they are in flower now?)
thyme, highland cream
sage, variegated
oregano, French golden
chocolate mint
geranium, 2 common varieties, low growing pink and taller purple
heuchera
osteospermum
saxifrage
euonymus (already potted up), gold and yellow and green and white varieties
black grass, ophingonum (will need to look that up!)
oxalis
purple flowered alpine with spikes leaves, see id thread,
buddleia (unless it's something else!, also on I'd thread)
and seedlings:
marigold, firecracker
dianthus, baby doll
aubrieta, cheeky mix
cornflower, mixed
love in a mist
and some of my hordeum jubatum grass
phew! Sorry didn't think I had that much! Anyone want some? But mainly would anyone buy these at a car boot sale, the seedlings are still very tiny, how big should I make the divided plants, is there enough time for them to settle down by 5 June?

Hi all
None of the expected rain has arrived
Fingers crossed for later
I'll get the hose out just in case.
Dove, how did you get ouchies on your shoulders? Mine are fine and I wasn't covered.

Ta folks.
I would buy 'flowers', heuchera (dependant on colour) and stay clear of herbs - but that's just me
Looks like you have a good lot to sell
Completely inspired by fidget!
But when I went to visit her I couldn't find anything at all to take for her!
