Clari - if I was going to keep chickens in the garden I'd keep some Light Sussex bantams - pretty birds, lovely calm temperaments, good layers and eggs nearly as large as large breed hens. You can keep more of them in a small space 'cos they're bantams
there are other colours of Sussex bantams too, if you want a mixed bunch - speckled and buff and Coronation and Columbian etc etc
Oh! I didn't realise omlet sold chickens too!I guess it makes sense when you think about it. I've been looking for an omlet coop - I worry that with wood it can harbour nasties so the plastic would be ideal for deep cleaning but unfortunately haven't found a second hand on available yet (a little out of my price range for a new one)
They're beautiful creatures - I do so like something a little more unusual for a garden than the brown ones you tend to associate with farms.
What the omlet website has gotten me thinking now however is...
We've got a chiminea but so far we've not used it to keep warm - OH uses it for burning old confidential paperwork - next time we get a pleasant evening we'll light it properly and put some firewood on it and try it out for you.
However we have friends who have lots of space and they have a big cast iron firebowl, and that is fantastic to sit around in the evening with a glass of something or three
Dove but is it the drink or the fire keeping you warm?!
Well, its tiddling it down here. Good job I can't garden because I've spent 2 days toing and froing from the hospital. My Dad has been wheezing for three weeks, so after finally obtaining an appointment with his GP, , the GP decided he needed urgent admission to Hospital and wanted to call an ambulance. Dad insisted on driving home in the Frontera, packing a bag and then calling a taxi. My sister was called who cant drive, so I walked in from shopping just as it was beginning to rain. Sister on phone in panic, washing on line getting wet, food in car boot defrosting nicely, and sister wanting to know how long I would be. !!!
Most of yesterday spent at hospital, and today.
Once the lung man had ruled out COPD, emphysema, and asbestosis, a chest Xray showed a lot of fluid on his lungs, so he got a diuretic to clear the fluid and an oxygen mask. If he would keep the mask on , he would improve better, but today the cardiologist decided he has mild heart failure and they have moved him to cardiology from EAU for more tests.
However , we know he's getting better, because he told the man in the next bed his plans for modifying mums new electric recliner chair with a swivel mechanism off the old chair. He's planning on doing it while mums out shopping.I think we are going to have to hide the keys to the garage. He knows he shouldnt do it, because it will invalidate the warranty, but that engineers gene is fighting all the way.
The nurses had to tell him to stop twiddling with the knobs for the oxygen supply.
As the man in the next bed says... have you bought any spanners wrapped up in his new pajamas?
Lizzie, those strawberries look lovely, I haven't even got flowers on mine yet
We've got a chimenea and used it a few times last summer as it was lovely BBQ weather but did get chilly later on.....we like to crank it up with some kind of sing a long music on when we have friends round (but never after 11pm!!!)

Who buys a high vis vest for their chicken??
Our chiminea is a cast iron one and OH has just said that even when he's just burning paper it really pumps out the heat
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Dove but is it the drink or the fire keeping you warm?!
French ones called Gariguette.
First proper picking of strawberries!
we have a cast iron one . last used on christmas eve . me and OH had mulled wine and mince pies .and christmas carols for a hour .or two
