Battered by the weather or colds and bad backs, I hope everyone is safe and dry tonight. Terrible flooding ...can't imagine such a terrible upset to one's daily routine. Routines are essential for keeping me sane.
To answer the sales question, I did all right although overall it was a very poor effort in my town. We have a designer outlet, John Lewis, Debenhams and M&S, none of which managed to shiver my timbers. Picked up a couple of clothing items that were basics, found a lovely pair of black jeans not in the sale and a handbag I liked that was too expensive until eldest son turned up with my Christmas present that will half it's cost in vouchers.
Been working most of the day to help OH achieve his deadline, not much of a Christmas this year especially him, might organise something different next year such as a holiday or weekend away, depending on his condition ofc
Greetings from my new toy which is a Chromebook, my Christmas present from OH (fed up with having to lend me his laptop!). Hopefully I'll be able to be a bit more regular on here now, at least once my family have left around New Year.
It's been lovely to have them though. The grandchildren are such fun and we don't see enough of them, since they moved to Ireland, so we're making the most of their stay. Weather hasn't been the best (bit of an understatement that!) but they love plodging in puddles... and it's great to be with our daughter and SIL too.
Sorry to hear some of you are not so well; hope Wonky is improving, and DD and Clari are getting enough rest to recover from their colds. Hosta and Mr H are clearly in need of some warmth. All you need to be able to do is totter to the airport...
Buttercupdays, that must have been a shattering experience. As others have said, you sound like the ideal neighbour - good on you!
Well, at least we can leave our town today. Yesterday we were completely cut off by road and rail, due to the floods in our valley. Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd, further down the valley, were even worse affected than we were, with deep water flooding properties in the valley bottom. Our house is raised up the steep valley side, about 30m above the river, and after the flood siren went off at around 7am we didn't know what was happening until it grew light. Then it became evident that the recently-finished flood defences had been breached. They are designed to syphon off excess river water to flood the park to a depth of 2m or so, and worked well - there was a huge lake. But the river had continued to rise and burst its banks, flooding all roads into the town, and turning the railway line into a river. I'm still waiting to hear from a friend who lives on a narrowboat on the canal. I know that some boats were swept from the canal into the river further down the valley - hopefully hers wasn't one of them since her mooring is fairly sheltered; I'll go and see tomorrow. It's amazing how quickly things return to "normal" (though there are families being fed and housed in the Town Hall today) - the back part of Lidl was flooded but the shop was open as usual today. Folk don't give up easily!
Better go to bed. Sleep well everyone.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
home safe from our family Christmas in Yorkshire, 10 miles from York.
we had a lovely time, it was heaven to be with my new granddaughter, the Moscovites and even the in laws , who played nice! Although almost had to physically restrain daughter from stabbing her father in law who never lifted a finger but helped himself to everything on offer. the houses I organised came up to the mark which was a relief but I have honestly never heard rain like it. The bridge we had played Phoo sticks on the day before burst all over the fields and the hotel we had our Christmas lunch in was flooded out the next day. I think it was Fairy who said they were running out of road closure signs, well had first hand experience of that! Slowly and gently we got home. Lettuce and water tomorrow suggested to oh we have 3 days t t He agreed as day 4 is Hogmany!
sorry not to have read all the way back but I hope everyone with sore backs, the shivers and any other nuisances feel better soon. I am off to the land of Nod

I hope any affected by flooding are ok ... awful awful times.
Nice to see those who've been away reporting back - glad everyone had a good Christmas
I'd not slept well the night before, so was really tired last night and went to bed before Aidan came on tv .... it's been taped and I'll watch it this evening. I slept solidly through the night so I hope that my sleep pattern is back to normal.
I'd better have a look around and see what's been going on ..........

Hello Dove. I'm glad you had a chance to catch up on your sleep. There's nothing worse than lying awake through the night, I reckon. Alls well here. Weather strange - cool morning, then not a bad day, but the breeze is very cold. They are predicting 30 tomorrow, but we'll see.

I never really got the Aiden Turner thing!
I seem to have spent rather too much money in the sales... Still, I needed some shirts and jeans...

Not female no, my husband isn't that fussed on him either!
I have to say though, Runny, that I found it difficult to look away when he was just wearing his towel
Yummy
Steve, if we all liked the same boys it would be boring
It did take me back to those corn fields ........
