Verd - I had to 'scramble' around for a joke as my brain is a bit 'fried' today. I'l try 'eggstra' hard to get one good enough for the joke thread.....
Rain is actually off just now- hurray! It'll let the dunnocks get on with building their raft to get across the middle of the garden to reach their food...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Like your new avatar fairy, very cute Hope you feel better soon, its amazing what sisters share with you isnt it
Not going out there its absolutly pouring down and very very windy. Will snuggle on the sofa instead. BIL not feeling to good so not going now. What with the weather and his flu like germs we decided to stay at home.
Yes,Fairygirl. Apparently, 90% of plants have this relationship with the fungi, and as you say it helps take up of water and nutrients. But brassicas don't and proteacae don't. But I would have thought that a humus rich soil would have enough fungi in, and a sandy soil next to none.
Fidget- I'll see how well my hedge has done once it gets a bit of foliage on it! I was surprised how well it stood up to all the wild weather we had recently - none of it seems to have suffered and it was right in the firing line. I'd considered putting a couple of lengths of wire or string along the inside of the fenceposts just to give them a bit of extra stability but never got round to it. I'll probably give it a feed in spring to help it along till it settles in.
It's about the only thing my sister ever shared with me growing up too lily...
Sofa sounds good to me

Hello all. I have just done my first gardening of the year! Well I have ordered some new dahlia tubers anyway. They are from Rose Cottage plantswho have agreat range and always supply decent tubers. No this is not an advert but do check them out.
Dont forget the Great British Garden Revival starts again next week.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Just got back from a very windy, horizontal rainy, new years day walk - but it had to be done. Lots of wet macs now drying in the kitchen. We went to one of the areas of local heathland, as I was a bit worried about the wisdom of a woodland walk in this weather. Most of the paths were rivers, but we were wearing wellies, so ploughed on regardless. Satisfying in a bracing sort of way. Saw one other couple, and no dogs in our 90 minutes rambling - oh, and a blackbird and some flowering gorse (can I add it to my NYD list if it wasn't in my garden I wonder...)

I like the new avatar, Fairygirl. You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.
