Good morning Fidget. I've found the previous discussion interesting as I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes last year. So far I have been able to keep things under control with altered diet and no treatment with medication.

Gosh what an interesting conversation from a cough! I have unusually low blood sugars (its been monitored, and I used to test myself when I felt unwell but now tend to recognise what is happening so gave my kit to my then newly diabetic mother to help her learn her body) the gp wasn't sure why (didn't seem overly concerned once the initial interest wore off) but it does mean I tend to be careful when taking anything that can upset the balance.

If I can make it to the supermarket before my meeting I'll try and get your cough cures though: this is making my ribs hurt!

Right; time to get t' kettle on.

Good morning, Pat. Do you do the low carb diet?  Hubbys blood sugar levels are usually too high. Mine will get too low, especially if I exercise before breakfast. I know the early warning symptoms now, a banana will usually sort it.

Clarington, I favour honey and lemon for dry coughs, if that doesn't work, there's always pholcodine linctus.

Basically I stopped eating as much sugar as I used to, but also we started having vegetarian meals about 4 nights each week (partly because of Hubby's cholesterol) and we eat lots of home grown vegs and canned chick peas, cous cous, pasta, and as much whole grain as possible. I went from about 78kg to 64kg and have managed to keep it off. hubby also bought me a Garmin wrist thingie which shows a red line of I don't move around after a while, so it gets me off my b..m. image

Hubby went low carb, no wheat products at all, cauliflower made into rice with curry instead of cereal rice. He lost about a stone and a half, and his cholesterol went down to 3-5, an unexpected bonus. Porridge for breakfast most mornings, with a handful of frozen homegrown blackcurrants. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon at least once or twice a week.  A half dozen almonds or walnut halves for mid morning snack. The diabetes uk forum has a lot of advice on controlling type 2 with diet, especially noting the newcastle low carb diet.

    Morning/afternoon all.

Interesting conversation! Glad that I'm pretty healthy and don't have the problems some of you experience. I might keel over in ignorant bliss one day of course, but I don't mind if I know nothing about it! On a more serious note - Clari- - have you had your cough for ages? One of my friends had the same issue last year, and went to the doc because of the ads on tv. Fortunately there was nothing wrong. I always just favour hot drinks with a few cough sweets. Pholcodine, as fidget says, seems the most effective liquid soother too. I love cough medicine - the aniseedy ones. Is that weird? image

    Morning all, hi Patimage

Bushman I've not ventured out yet because it's still dark, howling and chucking it downimage.  The dog won't wait much longer though.

Pat I'm pleased to hear you've had some rain at last.  Less watering for youimage.

DD I hope you're feeling a bit better this morning and that your guests don't want an evening meal as well.
