Clarington, I think the problem, even for some with plenty of garden space is lack of knowledge / confidence to have a go, and a lot of "I'm not a gardener'.
As one that ate fresh veg nearly everyday until I was 18 ( then I had a flat for 18months and lived on baked beans and spent my wages on fun ) I can't imagine not eating fresh veg, even if some isn't from my garden. I think maybe we now have generations that just don't know how to prepare, cook or enjoy vegetables.
I doubt we'll go back to dig for victory, but I think many are trying due to necessity and health.
I'd love it if one of my neighbours could grow things I don't have room for and I'd swap for my surplus. No use asking as one grows and feeds his young family, we do swap extra veg plants, and otherside are spreading pebbles where there isn't grass.
I think there has been a huge increase in the number of people growing veg over the last few years. However there is a problem in that the people most in need of an improved diet are the least likely to have gardens, and so the vicious cycle continues. Unfortunately as in so many things education is the issue and those who have none will end up with nothing. Sorry for the political rant.
Cottage pie for tea. Its in the oven just waiting for her ladyship to return from work.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I get sent David Nieper lingerie catalogues too. I bought a long nightie once, very expensive, but lovely. Not a sexy one, pretty soft cotton. Then years later, last year bought 2 bras. They fitted perfectly. Amazing! Still wear them.
The only veg I buy is either luxury, like asparagus, or hard to grow in this climate, like celery. I had an asparagus bed once that I planted, lasted 18 years, but got taken over by bindweed.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
One of today's tasks was to investigate some of the alcohol supplies in the garage to see what I needed to get in for Christmas.
Well, I found a bottle and a bit of Sloe Gin labelled 2004!!!! Thought we'd used all of that vintage but obviously not
Well, I think this year's brew can go and sit in the garage and mature - we'll use the 2004 this Christmas, and there's no time like the present - your very good health everyone
