  • I grow all my hosts in pots. They are in groups on my terrace in shade for most of the day. Different shapes and heights. very attractive, and not much of a problem from slugs now. Watering easy too, and feeding.

I've got some in pots on the terrace and some big ones (Sum & Substance and Blue Angel) are in the ground on the Shady Bank - they usually escape the slugs' attention 'cos they're so big and tough, but I'm giving them a bit of tlc just as they're peeking though the soil.  There's also a Hadspen's Blue in the front garden that I'm taking a bit of extra care of image

Dove, Hosta might correct me but I think the blighters are more partial to green & variegated ones. My bluish one, name image is usually okay.

Pdoc if you pop in please check your PM's.

  • My hosts used to be in the ground but used copious pellets to keep them half decent. Dug them all up and potted them. If I use pellets now the wildlife is safe.image And the hosts look great.

  • What's that strange stuff on my windows. Looks wettish to me.image

    Hi everyone

Hoping Shadow is feeling better very soon, Flynn has been unwell today himself, nothing as serious just that beef is definitely off the menu image

Did manage some gardening this afternoon, glorious sunshine again but felt really achy and energy levels were low. OH moaned at me but I really wanted to get some of my plants in the ground, no rain yet

Week off gardening next week for some serious DIY

    Have a great weekend guys

    Hi everyone,

DD sorry to hear about Shadow, hopefully he'll improve gradually.

Have had a great couple of days.  Beautiful weather up in Yorkshire and really enjoyed the Harrogate Show.  Bought a couple of plants, a dark plum coloured Phlox and a beautiful dusky pink Delphinium, can't remember the names.  Stayed over at my friend's daughters house and then this morning went to Harlow Carr.  Again glorious sunshine and thought the gardens were beautiful.  On the way back popped into Felley Priory but got there too late to do the bluebell walk as the site closes at four, but what a gem, will definitely go back when I have more energy and more time.

Arrived home to find that my plants had been delivered so will have plenty to do tomorrow.

Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands
