Bill and everyone, thanks for your kind wishes for my parents Bill, Pa is very frail and unable to walk and has to be hoisted and Ma can only walk a few steps with great pain and difficulty - they are together in a little residential home in the small seaside town where they lived for 30 years after passing the farm on to my brother - it's more like a little guest house but with lovely carers. Pa has lost the vision in one eye but can read the paper and watches tv - but most of all he loves to watch what's happening on the common - he has two windows in his room, one looks out over the rugby pitch and the sea and the other looks over the cricket pitch and the harbour - he watches people walking their dogs and knows them all. Yesterday we could see two dinghies sailing on the sea - his long vision is amazing and his mental faculties are fine - he just gets very tired. He also has to have all his food mashed and his drinks thickened as a result of a stroke. However, he has a sweet tooth and loves jelly and ice cream, and this is the ideal pudding for him so he gets it often which he is pleased about.
Ma has spells where she is very confused, but nevertheless she is happy - she has her own room, but joins Pa every morning after breakfast when he is shaved and presentable, and they spend the day together in his large bed-sitting room, watching passers-by who wave and chatting with the staff and of course watching tv. They usually join the other residents in the dining room for lunch and after lunch Ma often joins in some activities with the others. The home is wonderful, arranging entertainments and amusements, and of course the staff have become more like friends, and their children and grandchildren come in to see the residents. Local schools also bring little 'concerts' to them, and the older children doing Duke of Edinburgh Awards etc come and chat to Pa about his time in the RAF during the war and he gives them a copy of his memoirs which my son helped him to write and publish.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning Clari , Archie and AWB. Cold one here - thick frost again. Birds on the bird table have started bickering rather than playing nicely - must be nearly spring
