Re the Delphiniums......I hold my hands up (I think I should have kept my other name!!!!!) they were free seeds I had, I thought they looked nice and as they are perennials thought they would be good year after years obviously I didn't have my glasses on when I decided to sow them as I didn't realise they took so long to germinate and grow!! They have been in now 4 weeks and it says in the packet 21-40 days germination, I am actually wondering though whether to put them I the GH now it is ready as it gets up to 35c in the day (but 5c at night??), any advice in that one gratefully received!
i have noticed today that I've the weekend my Verbena has starter to germinate and that says 1-3 months!!!
Maybe my name should have been Not a patient Gardener!!!
Also over the weekend my crocus have finished and my tulips have shot up and will flower later this week I would think (my free ones from GW which some of you have already posted pics of).
I tried copper collars round my dahlias last year Chicky. They somehow made it over the top and chomped them to sticks. It was very saddening! I didn't try pellets though. Maybe I should give it another go, but knowing my luck they'll work out some sneaky tricks round them
Look forward to the tulips Tracey. Re the 35* GH - its probably too hot for any small seedlings - theres a good chance they will shrivel and not recover. Can you open windows? If not, i would keep them on windowsills indoors til they get a bit more robust.
Hi Chicky, thanks for the tip,mi hadn't thought about it being too hot, was more concerned with it being too cold at night so thank you I do have automatic opening windows but they don't seem to be working, I think I need to adjust them but need to read the info
Re my tulips, does anyone know if they flower at different times as one pot don't seem to have many flowers, although the others didn't until today when I got home
Finally.......Nasturtium, do any of you grow them and are they nice/worth it? Do they have a common name as I recognise then from when I was little but don't remember the name??
I grow Nasturtiums in the veggie garden next to the broad beans. They are meant to entice the blackfly off the broad beans! Last year I didn't have blackfly on either I decorate salads with the edible peppery flowers. Very easy to grow and the seeds are big enough to manage easily. Here in France they are called Capucine. The Latin name is Tropaeolum.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all - early start - sat on a train already. Very foggy on the way to the station - although that didn't stop the early morning racer boys overtaking with no clue what was coming their way
My Blue Tit was talking to me this morning. Now that he (and his brothers) are firmly embedded in my brain i think i will move on to learning to talk coal tit. In a few years time i should have the whole garden sussed

Glad you had a good mini-hols
Panda - intelligent, sneaky snails ..... There must be a way to foil them. Hosta growers swear by garlic spray - worth a try

Happy to give garlic spray a shot
OL, My tulips in the ground have flowered, the ones in the pots are just leaves at the moment. you can get tulips that flower earlier than others.
