Thanks Pdoc. I have never managed to keep any, but keeping my fingers crossed. Spitting with rain here.
Lily lovely view, see what you mean about looking dead, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for that as well. Think it's still early days, have you had a scratch at it?
Just phoned up our gc, to ask advice on my dead looking hydranga. He told me to start at the top of a stem and gently scrape the survice , he said if underneath was green it was alive. (If it wasn't green gradually go down that stem until it is) If there is no green showing at all, it is dead. YAY mines not dead!!
Not sure but think Busy Lizzie said hers was looking like a dead stick like mine too.
Star gaze lily - check by scratching a bit of the stems of the paniculater hydrangea to see if you can see a green layer inside then it is fine just late in growing, if it is brown no good check a few areas
Just decided to get on with the ironing but oops no ironing board - had forgotten it broke on the last load I did, new one ordered at Argos so off I go in new courtesy car, shiny Peugeot 107. At least mine will come back valeted.
Have decided it's just too cold to get in the garden today, plenty of time for that, so have walked round and made a garden job list instead. Just done the scratch test on the hydrangea, ok but still sleeping.

Hi gg, we missed each other.
Lily, I had a dead stick last year, so, if it's me you meant, you have a good memory. I had a hydrangea paniculata, now I don't have any hydrangeas.
Must get lunch, then OH is off to piano lesson.

Congratulations to your parents, Dove.
Lovely photos of the sparrowhawk, Archie. No wonder the birds kept away he looks quite sinister..
Finished planting my rosa rugosa hedge at last just before the rain started. Came in and had a toasted teacake. I felt I deserved it.
Thanks Pottie Pam, how I forgot pancake day I don't know! You caught me just before I'm off to the shops as well!
