I have just received my bulbs and wonder why I can't plant tulips now with the others and why I should wait until October to plant them .

    Because tulips are more susceptible to the tulip fire virus if the are in the ground in the warmer autumn months - i have always been told to wait til november. Store them somewhere cool and dry til then, and make sure they are not in a plastic bag or they are likely to rot. A paper bag or mesh sack is best.

    I was always told to plant them while the soil warm in oct and not after dec.

    thats ok,I have too! and they will come up.what they dont like is soggy soil.
