pieris

Having been magnificent all season my Pieris now seems to be dying - leaves shrivelling with tiny black spots on the underside.   Does anyone know the cause (and the cure) if there is one.

My lovely Pieris japonica 'Cupido' had died, a victim to the infamous Pieris lacebug. Here's a pic of the 😡😠💢 little bugger captured this morning ... but too late; the damage is done and beyond repair.
Excuse the poor quality of the photo, taken through the plastic envelope where the lacebug was kept captive before its imminent destruction.

Oh no, I haven’t heard of this little critter.  I have a fab pieris which I’d be sad to lose.  I’d better go and check it over 🙄😱

I have a long hedge of pieris shrubs and found quite a few of these bugs on them last year. Didn’t have anything ‘proper’ to hand, and couldn’t be bothered to mix up some washing up liquid solution, so I gave the affected plants a quick spray with the kitchen surface cleaner! ( happened to be Method brand in rhubarb scent!) killed all the flies and didn’t seem to do the plants any harm. Probably wouldn’t risk it on a precious plant, but mine are all fine this year, no sign of any bugs so far .

Can you post a photo @suke?
Some parts of the country don't get these lacebugs, so it could easily be something else. They can suffer if conditions aren't right, and can get a bit of black spot/fungal disease.
Stressed plants are always more likely to succumb to all sorts of things too.

As it was 10 years ago I think the plants either survived or dead completely.😀
