White pine rust

Some of the blackcurrant bushes in our garden have developed what looks like white pine rust

Any suggestions how to get rid of it?

  • Very hard to treat since the spores are carried by wind, water and insects. I'm affected by rust and control it by removing any infected plant, as soon as I see it. I have a weed, Groundsel which appears to be a host plant. By keeping this weed in check minimises the damage to other plants.

Good housekeeping and cleaning/desinfecting of all tools and footware is very important too.
