I find that dark colours just disappear in a shady spot. I bought a couple of silver leaved lamium for£1-30 each yesterday. To go under the oak tree near the yellow flowered ashwood hellebore I bought last week. I expect that to flower, I paid £15 for it.

I've got those as well, and hardy geraniums,  and foxgloves and snowdrops and tete a tete daffs. It's still waiting for construction of retaining wall. I'm also thinking of Lewisias  in pockets in the wall and some hardy Cyclamen. It gets Sun in spring and late afternoon in summer.
