House plants

I am looking for a house plant but not so sure what to choose.OH hates plants in the house so looking for something to change her mind.What plants do you have in your house and why?

  • Ok i get the point then that no-one likes house plants. my wife is that bad ,she can kill a plastic flower.

  • Well, it all depends where you want to put it - on a sunny windowsill or a shady corner?  Tell us a bit more ....

  • Orchid orchid and more orchids!!! My oh bought a bonsai from ikea that I thought I had killed lol it lost all its leaves last year ( in autumn!!! Doh) it's thriving this year lol why I thought it wouldn't she's in autumn is beyond me....

    Agree with Dove,also consider your heating and the postion of the plant in relation to it.

  • The OH hates them on the windowsill so they would have to be on the floof in a corner away from the radiator.

  • So you're talking about a shady corner in a centrally heated room, you'll need something quite large  for it to have any 'presence' and avoid being a trip hazard - looks like a Monstera Deliciosa http://apps.rhs.org.uk/plantselector/plant?plantid=1292 would fit the bill, or a Ficus Benjamina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficus_benjamina image

  • The cheese plant will grow to big even though i do like them,and the fig you only have to sneeze and the leaves drop off.I did like your choice dove, in the right terms and conditions.

    You'd be no good in my house then, cactus all over the kitchen windowsill....
