Hi Alan
Yes can be fanned. You need a pretty sheltered position but not South facing better east or North, the reason being the blossom comes early and may get hit by frost if South. Free draining soil too.
What about a plum to add to your collection. Pretty unfussy and can be wall trained too. Better still a greengage. Not many people seem to grow them anymore and they are delicious.
Greengage very similiar to plum and can be used in the same way. I think they taste better but maybe thats just me.

I bought a cherry tree a couple of years ago. This year I got greengages from it! well it looked like a cherry at the time.......
Alan what does Manyofem mean? And do you mean you cant use smilies?
You are very welcome. Wish more people would grow them. Used to scrump neighbours tree as a kid lol.
Greengages make the Best Jam In The World!!!
When you move here you will be lucky as you'll be in the same county as http://www.readsnursery.co.uk/plum-and-gage-trees/ - a fabulous fruit nursery - highly recommended by Mr Don and others - I've bought really good fruit trees and bushes from them and Stephen Read is very helpful if you email him.
They have a wide selection of plums and gages, including the lovely Old green gage.
PS the also stock apricots, of course
