Mimulus and
I had a good display of mimulus around my pond which has a shallow area where birds love to sit and splash. I recently added salt to the pond to control blanket weed and as a tonic for the fish. In the area around the splashy pond all of my mimulus has died away leaving bare ground. I'm guessing this is because of the salt in the water, (3lbs per 100 gallons). Am I right thinking this? I have read that some Mimulus is salt tollerant.

Whoa! You added salt to the pond? Salt is a poison. You will kill everthing in the pond. When did you put it in, how much and who made you think that it would only kill blanket weed? I'd get those fish and anything else you value out of there right now.
I should think it's way too late if the mimulus have died

Me too. The fish might live if they get into fresh water by the end of the day.
Thanks for the reply but you're wrong. I've been adding salt regularly over the years and nothing has ever died except the mimulus. Pond salt is added as atonic for fish which helps their slime coat etc.
Thanks again
Just to say I have never felt the need to give my fish a tonic of any kind. If they are well, they are well.
Secondly, I had a look at a website, chosen at random, about salt in fish ponds. Cuttlebrook koi farm has a piece on the use of salt in koi ponds. It says "don't use it unless you have to" and "use it only as a medication".
Koi keeping may be different from other type of fish keeping. I would certainly never add it to my pond which contains other species.
Mimula clearly don't appreciate it and neither will any other plant.
I doubt if there's much fresh-water wildlife in there but maybe that's not what you're aiming for. Not everyone is interested in protecting native wildlife.

Sorry I asked. My fish are fine, my lillies are fine, the frogs are fine. I'm very interested in protecting native wildlife. All I wanted to know about was Mimulus.
Australian Mimulus are salt lovers.
Can we leave it at that please.
