Cistus pruning ?

Is it ok to prune my white Cistus? if so when and how should I do this please?

  • You can do this now. If you leave it until much later in the year it will find it difficult to recover before winter starts. Do not prune it back too hard as you might lose it. I have never lost one but always take cuttings just in case!

  • i have a couple of cistus in tubs. can I plant geraniums around them. I am concerned as I gather they do not like too much water

  • I have just bought some cistus in 10 litre pots. The bottom branches look dead with no leaves on them. Can I cut these back to encourage new growth at the base ?

Have you got a photo @michaelgriffith399IlJSCOZJ?
That can help with advice.  :)

I don't grow them so it's difficult to know. It will help if you know the types you have -  including Helianthemums which also get called rock rose, but are quite different from Cistus, the usual big ones.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
