Drimys winteri

Can anyone offer advice? I have 2 Drimys in my garden - 1 is doing fine and looks amazing the 2nd one is losing its leaves and the stems turning black.

Can anyone advise what the problem might be and what I should do to rectify it ?

  • I have two thoughts

    1. could the poorly one have suffered more than the other during the very hard winter we experienced  - it's only supposed to be frost hardy and it was much colder than that here in the east.  I know relatives in South Wales who had a very tough time of it too.
    2. could it have dried out more than the other in this dry summer?  They do prefer to keep their roots moist.

It's tough being a gardener - long cold winters, long hot summers .... imageimage

(that's three thoughts in all then image)
