Too true, Barry. I have just enticed my robin, who comes for a worm meal when I am cultivating the veg plot, to drop three small green caterpillars, either peacock or white admiral as I have seen both in the garden. I gave him a large juicy worm in exchange so perhaps he'll prefer those in future.
I often see butterflies sitting on nettles. Can anyone please tell me what they are finding there? Do they actually eat the leaf, or is there something else there not visible to us?
Reply to A walker Several butterflies lay their eggs on nettles: peacock, small tortoiseshell, comma, and their caterpillars feed on the leaves. The butterflies do not eat anything other than nectar, but may be sunning themselves.
I have not seen any butterflies or moths in my garden but something is eating a newly planted 4ft high laurel bush. Please help. There will soon be no complete leaves left on the bush. I would like to 'kindly' eradicate the little blighter
