Are there any fruit or veg that will grow close to a north facing 6ft fence?

Is there any sun at all? Total shade, probably not. Partial shade yes. Spinach, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, chard, peas.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I put some runner beans and french climbing beans in a similar location this year, ground gets about one hour sun around Feb / March, double row about 2 feet from wall. Sun catches the rows well later on May / June. Seemed to be no problem - good crop.

  • I grow all my veg in woodland... Have got the best carrots, pumpkins, beetroot, chard and onions this year and not to mention the self set cherry toms which are outstanding.....

  • hit send b4 finished! I think it's going to be a matter of trial and error .....http://www.examiner.com/article/40-fruits-vegetables-and-herbs-that-will-grow-partial-shade
