Can anyone identify a tree from which I have the seed pod. I took it from a tree outside my apartment in; Gran Canaria many years ago. It is about 6 inches long and resembles a large pea pod. I still have it it sounds like a type of marracca? ( spelling) musical instrument!
Bilje, I have just been on google and I don't think that is it, the pods on the Carob tree hang in bunches. These seemed to hang singly also if I remember correctly the leaves were similar to a Rowan tree, (mountain Ash).
Thank you Dovefromabove. I took Gerald Durrells; Corfu trilogy with me on my recent visit to Corfu It was a lovely read the first time in ages that I have laughed out loud whilst reading. It's one of those books that one can easily read again and again.

Is it a carob pod...have seen them on my travels, I believe it may be a chocolate substitute but can't remember the detail.

Wisteria has a pod like that. I grew some from seeds once. But I expect it's something more exotic.
Curiosity got the better of me, and I googled carob, the leaves certainly do look like a rowan....hope someone does identify it.
